Trust
What is the difference between trust and faith? Trust is the basis of faith. Trust is confident hope. When we confidently hope for eternal life we seek the truth. We begin to trust the word of God. As we read and study God's Holy Words we begin to trust them. We learn that salvation, eternal life, cannot be earned. We learn that it is a gift, a gift that once it is accepted changes us. A transformation begins in our life, we start the process of taking on the characteristics of Jesus. The more we learn about His life the more trust we put in His Word, the Bible. This transformation we undergo is sometimes referred to as a new birth. We become a new person. This process takes time. With trust comes faith, and faith brings increased knowledge of His word. Have you studied His word today? Are you in need of a transformation?
How do we know what we need? The answer is very simple. We need to look past our egos and take a very deep and searching inventory of our life. We have both good and bad attributes. Everyone has shortcomings. All have sinned and fall short of God's glory. The Law of the old Testament is only a mirror we can use to look at ourselves. The Law and the prophets reveal that the only way God could save us is through the righteousness that we obtain by faith. After the birth, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the Law was replaced by Grace. The Law pointed to the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. His sacrifice, the sacrifice of God his father was sufficient for all. This showed God's magnificent Grace, what lengths He was willing to go to save us. God wants you to know Him. He states in His word that no strangers will enter into His kingdom of heaven.
Sometime after you begin your transformation you will discover that a very peaceful and serene feeling has come over you. This is the peace that surpasses understanding, no one can describe this feeling to you. You must experience it to enjoy it. Have you surrendered your ego to serenity? Do you still attempt to play God and control all of your life? If you do you should consider surrendering some of your life to Him. He wants to know you personally.
In summary I want to share with you something from Dr. J. Vernon McGee. In his explanation on understanding the Book of Luke he has the following. . .
"Many anthologies of religion list Buddha, Mohammed, Moses, and Christ as founders of religion. It may seem strange to you, but Jesus Christ is not the founder of any religion. He did not found a religion; He died on a cross for the sins of the world. He is a Savior, and that is why we are not saved by religion; we are saved by Christ. I remember Dr. Carrol said many times, "When I came to Christ, I lost my religion." A great many people need to lose their religion and find Christ."[1]
