Internet Publishing Workshop

About this Workshop –

The best way to learn is by practice. To make practice enjoyable we need a basic understanding of what it is we are about to learn. In this workshop we will learn how to construct Internet Web Sites. First we will construct a simple Hyper-text Mark-up Language (html) document using application software for the automatic insertion of mark-up tags. The most popular application is MS Front Page or the free version called Front Page Express.

After the page (document) has been created we will use another application to transport it in its binary format to our personal file space on our Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) computer. Every ISP has different requirements and methods to accomplish this. We will use the Internet to learn what your Provider’s requirements are. You will then experience the publishing of your very simple page.

Next we will use the Internet to view the page you created and published. Practice will be accomplished by repetition of this process. You will now edit and change your page and republish it. We will repeat this process several times until you can perform the process easily.

In the remainder of the workshop we will learn to utilize some more advanced features of html. We will insert graphical and sound content. We will create both internal and external hyper-links. Tables will be used for absolute positioning and adding art work. Backgrounds and watermarks will be introduced. Your Web Site will grow with the addition of other pages.
It is the intent of this workshop to provide you with sufficient repetition of the processes involved such that they may be retained. Like anything else we learn… “If you don’t use IT you lose IT.”

This workshop will employ the use of discussion. It is an excellent way to retain learning and grasp an understanding of the material. Please ASK Questions… This facilitates discussion. We come to the workshop with varying backgrounds and experience. We learn from each other. The facilitator will do his best to keep the group focused. Have fun!
